Dr Ann Fitzgerald is a counselling psychologist with almost 20 years’ NHS and private practice clinical experience. She works as a therapist in Edinburgh providing psychological therapy for adolescents 16+ years and adults. Ann’s approach is to focus on the ‘here and now’ of life to enhance mental well-being by becoming more psychological aware, curious, hopeful and reflective. Psychological therapy is an exploratory process of talking therapy that can help you to better understand and manage current stressors and distress such as anxiety and low mood by attuning to emotional, relational, cognitive and behavioural patterns and processes. Psychological well-being is understood as the integration of mind-body capacities and resources within the context of the individual’s life story, relationships and experiences.

As a therapist in Edinburgh, Ann’s sessions are typically semi-structured focused on co-constructing an emotionally salient, meaningful conversation to help build a robust psychotherapeutic relationship. People often worry about having things to say or bring to therapy and how they will fill the 50-minute session. However, Ann can help you to recognise how every ordinary daily life experience potentially provides a window to unpack the richness and complexity of the 'total situation' being your psychological makeup and how you make sense of yourself, others and the world.

Ann also provides specialist sport and exercise psychological interventions in Edinburgh. She works with all levels of sport (elite, amateur, competitive & recreational), and all sporting activities including individual and team sports. She takes a flexible approach to focus on the needs and goals of the individual within a specific sport and exercise context.

Ann offers a free telephone consultation 15-20 mins before arranging the first appointment. She is registered with most major health insurance companies including Bupa, Aviva, WPA, Cigna & Vitality. Authorisation by your insurance company needs to be arranged in advance of appointment.
