Nutrition

Nutritional Therapist Dr Nina Dobrovinskaya (Dr Nina) explains how she helps her clients here at her Edinburgh Clinic.

I have learned from experience that "one size fits all" medicine does not work for chronic health issues. My approach takes into consideration the individual's specific requirements, preferences, and goals. Each client has a unique set of root causes and circumstances that have led them to where they are.

To address these, I combine evidence-based nutrition, clinical experience, and laboratory testing to create a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan.

Together, we utilise Health Coaching tools to implement this plan into your life.

I will support you in making gentle, achievable and sustainable changes that benefit your physical, mental, and emotional health.

What to Expect

  • Our work starts by investigating all the possible causes of your symptoms including:

    • toxic exposure

    • blood sugar imbalances

    • food sensitivities and intolerances

    • nutrient deficiencies

    • pathogens including parasites, bacteria and viruses

    • hormone imbalances

    • personal stressors and triggers

  • I may use laboratory testing to thoroughly investigate certain issues and will discuss this with you during our consultation.

Once I have uncovered the root causes of your symptoms, I will support you to make positive changes with a personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan just for you.

    A typical plan includes:

    • dietary advice

    • supplement recommendations (if needed)

    • lifestyle recommendations e.g. sleep, and movement

    • comprehensive analysis of drug-nutrient interactions if you are on any medications

    • simple kitchen swaps and recipes (if needed)

    • lab test interpretation (if needed)

  • I have trained in nutritional therapy using the Functional Medicine approach that combines the best scientific practices of Western medicine with the holistic approach of integrative medicine.

Functional Medicine uses the latest scientific methods to identify and address the root causes of a person’s symptoms instead of looking at symptoms in isolation.

Rather than just a “sticking plaster” Functional Medicine aims to understand why the problem occurred in the first place and address the underlying factors contributing to a person’s symptoms. It provides individualised care that considers genetic, environmental, lifestyle and nutritional factors that can influence health.

Functional medicine is a holistic, patient-centred approach that views the body as a whole system and identifies imbalances which can ultimately manifest as symptoms elsewhere. This interconnected approach to health helps to address underlying issues to promote long-term health and wellbeing.

Functional medicine is based on preventative and restorative lifestyle strategies, whereas conventional medicine treatments are only started once disease has already developed.

  • Working with a Nutritional Therapist starts with a detailed life-long history of a person and their symptoms.

We look for what may have triggered the symptoms in the first place (e.g. a virus) and what may still be driving the symptoms (e.g. auto-immune reaction).

We work on understanding the person’s unique biochemical imbalances, lifestyle and dietary triggers, toxic exposures, and genetic variations.

  • Working with me means working closely together for 12 weeks, digging deep into the root causes of your symptoms, and creating a personalised plan to improve your overall health.

My success with clients is because of long-lasting change, not quick fixes and I promise to support you every step of the way.

Depending on the level of support you need, we can meet monthly, fortnightly or weekly to ensure you are held accountable and supported.

You are not alone on this journey!
