Chinese Tuina Massage

Tuina or tui-na (‘twee-nah’) massage is widely regarded as the oldest system of bodywork. One of the four main branches of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) along with acupuncture, qigong, and Chinese herbology, the practice of tuina is based on the theory that imbalances of qi (‘chi’, the body’s vital life force or energy), can cause blockages or imbalances that lead to symptoms of pain and illness. Similar to acupuncture, Chinese Tuina massage targets specific acupoints, using fingers instead of needles.

  • In your initial consultation, your therapist will discuss your individual needs in order to create a bespoke massage. You will be fully clothed and under a blanket during the treatment. Appointments last 50 minutes.

  • We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing. Post-treatment, we recommend that you permit rest; a feeling of drowsiness and deep relaxation is common. Drink plenty of water to aid the body in flushing out toxins released during treatment. Hydration will also help reduce the likelihood of aches, pains or headaches post-massage.

  • This depends on the nature of your issue and your response to treatment. Some may require weekly or fortnightly follow-ups, others might require maintenance on a monthly or ‘now-and-again’ basis.
